TF | Coca, Martin earn national honors

NEW ORLEANS – National Athletes and Coaches of the Year for the 2024 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field season were announced on Wednesday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

Member coaches voted on these honors following the conclusion of 2024 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships two weeks ago in Pittsburg, Kansas, but considered performances throughout the season when voting on these honors.

Our Grizzlies were represented twice on this prestigious list with a male athlete of the year and a coach of the year.

Miguel Coca was named the 2024 NCAA Division II Men's Indoor Track & Field National Track Athlete of the Year. Coca, who hails from Las Vegas, New Mexico, made history nearly every time he stepped on the track this season. He particularly starred in February, where he shattered the NCAA DII 3000-meter record with his 7:44.90 clocking at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational and clocked the second-fastest all-conditions mile in NCAA DII history of 3:56.38 at the Ken Shannon Last Chance. Coca capped his indoor season by scoring 18.5 points at the 2024 NCAA DII Indoor Track & Field Championships with runner-up finishes in both the mile and 3000 meters, plus an anchor leg on the title-winning distance medley relay.

Coach Damon Martin was named the 2024 NCAA Division II Women's Indoor Track & Field National Coach of the Year. Martin, in his 36th year as Head Coach/Director of Cross Country and Track & Field at Adams State, led the Grizzlies to the team title at the NCAA DII Indoor Track & Field Championships with 67 points, racking up 12 First-Team and four Second-Team All-America honors.
