Albuquerque, N.M.— The Don Kirby Tailwind Twilight Meet was a showcase of exceptional athleticism and remarkable achievements, highlighted by athletes setting new personal records and the women's 4x400-meter relay team breaking the school record.
During the meet, the Adams State women's 4x400-meter relay team achieved a milestone by setting a new school record with an impressive time of 3:40.17. The relay team consisted of four talented runners
Alese Sartain,
Isila Apkup,
Jessica Simon, and
Victoria Amiadamen. This mark puts them at third Nationally as we head into the end of the season.
In the women's 1500-meter run,
Amalia Dorion finished in fourth place with a time of 4:37.87. Additionally,
Haley Harkrider finished in sixth place with a time of 4:50.27.
In the women's 100-meter hurdles event, Alena Chaney secured first place with a time of 14.45 seconds.
In the women's 400-meter dash at the meet, Adams State athletes delivered an impressive performance, securing the top three positions.
Alese Sartain took first place with a time of 54.90 seconds, followed closely by
Isila Apkup in second place with a time of 55.33 seconds, and
Jessica Simon in third place with a time of 55.51 seconds.
In the women's 800-meter run at the meet,
Nicole Lawrence finished in second place with a time of 2:09.99.
In the women's javelin throw event, Lauren O'Campo secured first place with a distance of 41.60 meters (136 feet 5 inches). She led the competition with a strong performance. Liana Fernandez, achieved a distance of 34.60 meters (113 feet 6 inches), placing her in 6th position in the competition.
In the women's long jump event,
Jada Miller, Alena Chaney, and
Avery Palmgren represented Adams State.
Jada Miller achieved a mark of 5.71 meters (18 feet 8¾ inches), which earned her 6th place in the competition. Alena Chaney achieved a mark of 5.67 meters (18 feet 7¼ inches) and finished 8th place.
Avery Palmgren also competed and achieved a mark of 5.25 meters (17 feet 2¾ inches), which placed her 9th in the competition.
In the men's 400-meter hurdles at the meet,
Neveh Jones and
Elijah Hatcher represented Adams State.
Neveh Jones finished in fourth place with a time of 54.69 seconds, and
Elijah Hatcher finished in fifth place with a time of 56.31 seconds.
In the men's 200-meter dash at the meet,
Ja'Warren Smith finished in fifth place at 21.89 seconds.
In the men's 400-meter dash,
Caleb Bafukila finished in eighth place with a time of 51.53 seconds.
In the men's 10,000-meter run,
Emil Bezecny finished in second place with a time of 30:17.92.
In the men's 1500-meter run,
Carmelo Corral represented Adams State and finished in second place with a time of 4:00.81. Additionally,
Micah Swann finished in fourth place with a time of 4:03.91.
In the men's discus throw event,
John Hochanadel achieved a mark of 42.60 meters (139 feet), securing third place.
In the men's shot-put event,
Donovan Capes represented Adams State and secured second place with a mark of 14.67 meters (48 feet 1¾ inches).
Up Next, the Grizzlies will be busy with multiple competitions. On April 26 (Friday) at 9:20 a.m., they will participate in the RMAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships at the CMU Track & Field Complex in Grand Junction, Colo. Later that same day, at 4:00 p.m. PDT, the team will also compete in the Payton Jordan Invitational held at Cobb Track and Angell Field in Stanford, CA. The following day, April 27 (Saturday) at 9:15 a.m., they will continue their efforts at the RMAC Championships in Grand Junction. Finally, on April 28 (Sunday) at 9:30 a.m., the Grizzlies will wrap up their participation in the RMAC Championships.
