ALAMOSA, Colo. — Adams State volleyball secured a pivotal home victory, defeating Texas A&M-Kingsville in four sets (25-16, 17-25, 25-20, 25-21) Wednesday night at Plachy Hall. With the win, the Grizzlies improved to 2-3 on the season, while the Javelinas fell to 3-2.
"As a group we decided that bringing energy and service pressure were going to be the two areas within our control that we would worry about. We did both of those at a high level and made enough plays across the board to set ourselves up for success. Thank you to the crowd that showed up big time for a great midweek regional game. This was a RPI boost for both us and the RMAC as a whole and our staff could not be happier about the style of volleyball we got to put on the floor tonight," said Head Coach Garcia Ramser.
Adams State took control early in the first set, capitalizing on Texas A&M-Kingsville's errors to secure a 25-16 win. Anna Huggins paced the Grizzlies with 10 kills, while Cindy Garcia added 11 kills despite some errors.
Texas A&M-Kingsville bounced back in the second set, taking advantage of Adams State's miscues. Led by Rylan Pollard's 11 kills, the Javelinas claimed the set 25-17 to even the match. The team hit .125 in the set compared to the Grizzlies' .094.
The third set was tightly contested, with multiple lead changes, but Adams State prevailed, winning 25-20. Katie Bauer led the charge with eight kills and a .500 hitting percentage, while Nora Conway contributed nine kills. The Grizzlies' defense held strong against Texas A&M-Kingsville's attempts to close the gap.
In the final set, both teams exchanged points before Adams State pulled away in the closing stages. Garcia and Huggins made key plays to seal a 25-21 win, giving the Grizzlies a 3-1 match victory.
