Adams State Falls to Texas Permian Basin in Tough Road Matchup, 67-14

Midland, Texas – Adams State faced a tough challenge against Texas Permian Basin at Astound Broadband Stadium in Midland, Texas, on Saturday. UTPB's dynamic offense and strong defense played a major role, leading to a 67-14 victory over the Grizzlies.

UTPB established early control, with running back Kory Harris leading a six-play, 69-yard drive that culminated in a 3-yard touchdown run by Gerard Palmer, followed by a two-point conversion. After a quick Adams State punt, UTPB capitalized again, as quarterback Dylan Graham orchestrated a sharp 72-yard drive, finishing with a 13-yard touchdown pass to Brock Johnson to extend the lead to 15-0.

Before the end of the first quarter, Harris added another short rushing touchdown, increasing UTPB's lead to 22-0. In the second quarter, Adams State faced difficulty finding its offensive rhythm, and UTPB continued to build on its advantage with a 1-yard touchdown pass and a 37-yard field goal, taking a 32-0 lead into halftime.

Adams State found some momentum in the third quarter. Quarterback Chase Nelson led a promising four-play, 75-yard drive, highlighted by a 43-yard touchdown pass to Ahmare Merrida just three minutes into the quarter, putting the Grizzlies on the board. However, UTPB quickly responded with a 96-yard kickoff return for a touchdown.

Despite another UTPB touchdown and a 12-yard scoring pass from Alexander Grado to Noel Moreno near the end of the third quarter, Adams State trailed 53-14. The Falcons added two more touchdowns in the fourth quarter to secure the 67-14 win.

UTPB's Dylan Graham completed 15 of 24 passes for 272 yards and four touchdowns, while Harris led the rushing attack with 155 yards and two touchdowns. For Adams State, quarterbacks Chase Nelson and Alexander Grado combined for 133 passing yards and two touchdowns. Ahmare Merrida was a bright spot on offense, contributing 82 total yards (48 receiving, 55 rushing) and a touchdown. Defensively, Christian Toeleiu and Jahsai Shannon each recorded eight tackles, while Seth Moss notched a sack.

The Grizzlies look ahead to RMAC play next week as they travel to Gunnison, Colorado, to face Western Colorado at 6 p.m.
