Alamosa, CO – The Adams State Grizzlies put up a valiant fight but ultimately fell to South Dakota Mines 3-2 in a five-set marathon on Friday night at Plachy Hall. The hard-fought match saw the Grizzlies win two sets, but South Dakota Mines rallied to take the decisive fifth set and secure the victory.
The opening set was tightly contested, with both teams exchanging points, but South Dakota Mines edged out a 30-28 win. The second set saw the visitors maintain their momentum, claiming a 25-20 victory. However, Adams State refused to go down quietly, bouncing back to take the third set 25-17 and carrying that energy into the fourth, winning 25-19.
In the final set, both teams battled intensely, but South Dakota Mines emerged with a 19-17 win to seal the match.
Adams State was led by Anna Huggins, who delivered an outstanding performance with 24 kills and 19 digs, while Cindy Garcia added 14 kills and 2 blocks. Setter Ellie Miller also contributed with 20 assists, 7 digs, and 2 kills. Defensively, Sierra Leone Sanchez anchored the back line with 21 digs, keeping the Grizzlies competitive throughout.
With the loss, Adams State falls to 2-10 overall and 0-3 in RMAC play, while South Dakota Mines improves to 7-4 overall and 3-0 in conference.
The Grizzlies will look to regroup as they continue their RMAC schedule, taking on Black Hills State at home tomorrow at 6 p.m.
