Wichita Falls, TX — Adams State's volleyball team dropped a tough four-set match to Southern Arkansas at the D.L. Ligon Coliseum in Wichita Falls, Texas, during the Midwestern State Invitational. Despite a spirited third-set comeback, the Grizzlies ultimately fell 3-1 (17-25, 14-25, 25-23, 14-25) to the Muleriders.
Adams State struggled to find consistent offensive rhythm, hitting just .051 for the match with 45 kills and 37 errors on 157 attempts. Cindy Garcia led the way with 16 kills and a .211 hitting percentage, while Anna Huggins added 13 kills. Madeleine Benally contributed 15 assists, and the defense was anchored by Sierra Leone Sanchez's 12 digs.
Southern Arkansas capitalized on Adams State's errors, hitting .219 as a team with 48 kills and just 11 errors. Carlin Whaley and Kayte Delong paced the Muleriders with nine kills each. Macie Shaver was a key playmaker, dishing out 19 assists while also recording three service aces.
The Grizzlies (1-3) found a spark in the third set, using a 20-kill effort to edge out a 25-23 win and extend the match. However, they were unable to sustain the momentum, as Southern Arkansas (2-2) dominated the fourth set, hitting .333 to close out the match.
Adams State closed out the Midwestern State Invite 1-3 and will look to bounce back as they continue their non-conference schedule before heading into RMAC play.
