Alamosa, Colo. – The Adams State Grizzlies surged in the second half to secure a thrilling 76-65 victory over South Dakota School of Mines on Saturday afternoon at the Den in Plachy Hall. The win improves Adams State's record to 7-6 overall and 2-6 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play.
Trailing 33-28 at halftime, the Grizzlies roared back with a commanding 48-point second half, powered by sharp shooting and relentless defense. Senior guard Jude Tapia led the charge off the bench, dropping a game-high 23 points, including seven 3-pointers. Tapia's long-range accuracy was instrumental in shifting the momentum.
John Harge delivered a versatile performance with 18 points, eight rebounds and six steals, providing a crucial inside presence and defensive spark.
The Hardrockers were led by Tre Dowdell, who scored 19 points and displayed tenacity on both ends of the court. Keagen Smith contributed 13 points and a game-high 11 rebounds before fouling out late in the contest.
Adams State's defense proved decisive, forcing 19 turnovers and scoring 16 points off those opportunities. The Grizzlies also excelled in transition, scoring 16 fast-break points compared to South Dakota Mines' two.
Alongside the women's team, the Grizzlies will hit the road next week, starting with CSU Pueblo before returning home on Feb. 6.
