DENVER -- A resilient second-half push by Adams State came up just short as the Grizzlies fell to Regis, 84-83, in a tightly contested Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) matchup Thursday night at Regis University Fieldhouse.
Trailing 45-34 at halftime, Adams State (8-11, 3-8 RMAC) stormed back in the second half, outscoring Regis 49-39 over the final 20 minutes. The Grizzlies took multiple leads down the stretch, but Regis (11-8, 9-2 RMAC) managed to hold on in the final seconds to secure the narrow win.
Ta'Veus Randle put together a strong all-around performance for Adams State, leading the team with 20 points on 7-of-14 shooting while also grabbing six rebounds. The junior guard knocked down two three-pointers and was perfect from the free-throw line (4-for-4).
Luke Williams provided a dominant inside presence, scoring 19 points while pulling down five rebounds. He went 8-of-14 from the field and chipped in three assists.
John Harge made his presence felt on both ends, finishing with 14 points, five rebounds, three assists, and a game-high three steals. Alex Hurr was a key contributor from beyond the arc, scoring 13 points while hitting 3-of-5 from three-point range.
Adams State's second-half push was fueled by an aggressive offensive attack. The Grizzlies pounded the ball inside, outscoring Regis 42-36 in the paint, and found success in transition with 16 fast-break points. Their bench also played a major role, contributing 24 points compared to just 13 from Regis reserves.
A key turning point came in the closing minutes when Adams State clawed back from a six-point deficit to take an 81-80 lead with under a minute to play. However, Regis responded with a go-ahead basket from Kobe Sanders, who finished with a game-high 36 points. The Grizzlies had a final possession to win the game but couldn't get a clean look as time expired.
The Grizzlies will look to bounce back as they travel to Colorado School of Mines for another RMAC showdown on Saturday.
