Salt Lake City – Adams State fought hard but ultimately fell short in a thrilling overtime matchup against Westminster (UT), 83-78, on Thursday night.
Adams State (8-6, 3-2 RMAC) got off to a strong start, scoring 18 points in the first quarter, but Westminster (3-10, 2-3 RMAC) responded with consistent offensive execution. The Grizzlies trailed by five at halftime, 41-30, but rallied in the second half, outscoring Westminster 25-15 in the fourth quarter to force overtime. Despite their late surge, Adams State was unable to capitalize in the extra period, as Westminster held a 12-7 scoring edge to secure the victory.
Angelline Nageak led Adams State with 18 points, five assists and two steals. Taejhuan Hill posted her fourth double-double of the season with 16 points and a game-high 15 rebounds, along with five steals. Kiiyani Anitielu contributed 16 points and three steals, while Ri'Ahana Davis finished with 14 points, five rebounds and four assists before fouling out.
The Grizzlies shot 34.1 percent from the field, making 29 of 85 attempts. They forced 26 turnovers, converting them into 27 points, and dominated in the paint with 48 points. Westminster's efficient three-point shooting, making 9 of 21 attempts, and rebounding advantage, 55-40, proved to be the difference.
Heading into overtime, after adding 25 points in the fourth quarter to post an overtime. The Grizzlies scored seven points compared to the Griffins 12.
Adams State will look to bounce back in its next RMAC matchup as the Grizzlies head to Grand Junction to take on Colorado Mesa on Saturday at 1 p.m.
