ALAMOSA, Colorado — In a Friday night match against Fort Lewis, Adams State Volleyball comes out on top in four sets, taking the match 3 sets to 1. The home win puts the Grizzlies at a record of 6-9(1-3 RMAC).
Friday night's win was a huge win for the Grizzlies as Fort Lewis came into the match 9-2(3-1 RMAC). The win allowed the Grizzlies to get some serious momentum going before their long stretch of conference matches. The Friday night win also gave the Grizzlies their second straight win after they beat New Mexico Highlands earlier this week.
Looking at the match more closely, the Grizzlies won the first two sets easily, taking the first set by a score of 25-18 and the second by 25-17. They dominated early in the match before Fort Lewis showed some fight, winning the third set 25-20. The brief comeback by Fort Lewis was not enough, as the Grizzlies responded strongly after losing the third set to win the fourth set and the match. They closed out the final set with a score of 25-17, once again dominating and securing the home victory.
Diving into the statistical breakdown of the match, the Grizzlies were able to take charge in every single major statistical category over Fort Lewis. Adams State led the match in total points, kills, serving aces, blocks, assists, and digs. Overall, the Grizzlies scored 77 points to Fort Lewis's 55; recorded 58 kills to Fort Lewis's 44; secured 11 serving aces to Fort Lewis's 7; managed 8 blocks to Fort Lewis's 4; collected 52 assists to Fort Lewis's 40; and collected 60 digs to Fort Lewis's 58. The Grizzlies truly showed out in Friday night's match by dominating Fort Lewis offensively and defensively in the one-sided home match.
Individually, for the Grizzlies, they were led by Hadleigh Richardson, Olivia Lunt, Peyton Priddy, and Katie Bauer. Richardson continues to stack up outstanding offensive and defensive matches as she led the Grizzlies in kills with 21, digs with 12, and was tied for the team lead in serving aces at 3 with Peyton Priddy, who also had a great all-around match, collecting 11 digs with her 3 serving aces. Following the lead of Richardson and Priddy were Lunt and Bauer. Lunt collected 11 kills and 3 blocks, both being second on the team overall, while Bauer led the team in blocks with 4, being a strong anchor for the Grizzly defense.
Looking forward for the Grizzlies, they will go on a stretch of 6 straight RMAC conference matches which will start next Friday, October 10th, against Chadron State. The match will be again at home and will be 1 of 2 home matches next week before the Grizzlies head on the road. Next Friday's match will be played at 6 PM MST and will be a great opportunity for the Grizzlies to get on a true roll as Chadron State is 4-9(1-3 RMAC). The Grizzlies will look to win their third straight match and continue their hot streak at home next week, and will look forward to having continued support from the community of Alamosa.
