San Angelo, Texas – Adams State Men's Basketball battled wire to wire but came up short in a 68-61 loss to an Undefeated Angelo State on Saturday afternoon inside the Junell Center.
The Grizzlies (1-1) held their ground early, playing Angelo State to a 26-26 tie at halftime thanks to strong defensive rebounding and contributions across the lineup.
Wyatt Helming led the way with a dominant double-double, finishing with 17 points and 15 rebounds while knocking down four threes.
Luke Williams added 13 points and seven boards, and
Emilek Jallow chipped in nine points.
Adams State opened the second half with a brief surge, taking a 33-28 lead, but the Rams responded with a 14-2 run to regain control. Turnovers proved costly down the stretch, as the Grizzlies committed 21 on the night, leading to 23 Angelo State points.
Angelo State (5-0) used a 42 point second half to pull away, paced by Jesaiah McWright's 18 points.
Despite the loss, Adams State out rebounded the Rams 43-39, and shot 52 percent in the second half. The Grizzlies will look to bounce back Tuesday, at their home opener against Northwestern Oklahoma State University at 6 p.m.
