Alamosa, Colo. – Adams State men's basketball put together its strongest offensive performance of the young season on Tuesday night, powering past Northwestern Oklahoma State, 99-86, inside the Den at Plachy Hall.
The Grizzlies were balanced, efficient, and relentless from start to finish, shooting 52 percent from the field and dominating inside with 52 points in the paint. Adams State also forced 22 turnovers and converted them into 26 points, setting the tone with pressure and tempo.
Wyatt Helming led the way with a monster outing, dropping 29 points on 11-of-21 shooting while grabbing 12 rebounds for a double-double. He was joined in double figures by
Jayce King, who buried four threes on hiw way to 15 points, and Dillian Baker who added 11.
Luke Williams chipped in 13 points and three assists, while
Jaylen Alexander added 10.
Adams State built a 46-33 halftime lead behind a flurry of steals and transition baskets, then kept its foot on the gas in the second half, scoring 53 more points and maintaining control despite a late push from the Rangers. The Grizzlies bench contributed 30 points, providing depth throughout the night.
Northwestern Oklahoma State was led by Max Alexander's 24 points, but the Grizzlies defensive pressure proved too much for the Rangers.
With the win, Adams State improves to 2-1 on the season and returns to the court Thursday to take on Midwestern State at 6 p.m. in the Den.
