Pueblo, Colo. – The Adams State cross country teams continued their dominance at the NCAA Division II South Central Regional Championships, sweeping both the men's and women's titles on Saturday. The women's team claimed the championship with an impressive 42 points, led by individual winner Tristan Spence, while the men's squad followed suit with 50 points to secure their spot atop the region.
Spence led a strong women's squad, crossing the finish line of the 6K with a winning time of 20:06.2. Teammate
Ava O'Connor wasn't far behind, clocking in at 20:14.7 in her first race of the season, a promising return as she looks ahead to Nationals in two weeks.
Maggie McCleskey was the third Grizzly to finish, placing seventh overall with a time of 21:02.3, followed by
Claragh Keane in 14th at 21:18.1. Kiera Damron rounded out the scoring for Adams State, finishing 18th with a time of 21:21.5, while Tanya Bouet and
Clara Keddy provided strong depth for the Grizzlies, finishing in 19th and 42nd, respectively, with times of 21:29.4 and 22:12.8.
On the men's side,
Kidus Begashaw led the way for the Grizzlies with a runner-up finish, covering the 10K course in 29:53.5.
Julian Campos was close behind in third, clocking 30:06.4 to help set the tone for Adams State's team victory.
Max Aldrich finished 13th with a time of 30:45.2, followed by Danton Yosief in 15th at 30:48.4.
Housem Hrabi rounded out the scoring with a 17th-place finish in 30:52.7, securing the regional title for the Grizzlies.
David Millan and
Nathan Scherbarth completed the team's strong showing, placing 24th and 29th with respective times of 31:14.4 and 31:26.5.
Both Adams State squads have punched their tickets to the NCAA Division II National Championships on Nov. 22, earning automatic bids with their commanding performances at the South Central Regional and setting the stage for what promises to be an exciting national showdown.
