Lakewood, Colo. – Adams State volleyball battled through a marathon five-set match on Saturday afternoon, earning a gritty 3–2 victory (20–25, 28–26, 25–16, 19–25, 15–9) over Colorado Christian inside the CCU Event Center.
The win improves the Grizzlies to 15–11 overall and 9–4 in RMAC play, while the Cougars fall to 9–14 (4–7 RMAC).
After dropping the opening set, Adams State clawed back to take the next two behind steady serving and tough defense. Colorado Christian evened the match with a strong fourth set, but the Grizzlies dominated the fifth, hitting .368 and closing on a 10–3 run to seal the win.
Hadleigh Richardson led the Grizzlies with 16 kills and nine digs, while
Mercy Martinez was efficient on the outside, hitting .393 with 12 kills.
Katie Bauer added nine kills and a match-high six blocks, while
Rowan Tribelhorn tallied eight kills and six block assists.
Setter's
Peyton Priddy and
Ellie Miller guided the offense, Priddy added 22 assists while Miller had 20 assists and three aces.
Ashlyn Jones chipped in three service aces of her own. Defensively,
Logan Conlin anchored the back row with 19 digs.
As a team, Adams State posted 59 kills, 11 aces, and 13 total blocks, hitting .171 for the match.
The Grizzlies finish out RMAC play on the road next week, heading to CSU Pueblo on Tuesday, before heading to MSU Denver and UCCS Friday and Saturday to finish the regular season.
