Durango, Colo. – Adams State put together an efficient offensive night but couldn't slow Fort Lewis down in the second half, falling 94-85 in RMAC play Saturday evening at Whalen Gymnasium.
The Grizzlies shot the ball well from deep, knocking down 17 three-pointers, and stayed within striking distance throughout the first half. Adams State took a one-point lead into the break behind balanced scoring and strong ball movement, heading to halftime up 41–40.
Wyatt Helming led the way for Adams State with a game-high 26 points and a double-double performance, adding 10 rebounds while shooting 6-for-9 from beyond the arc. Dillan Baker chipped in 20 points, connecting on three triples, while Emilek Jallow added 11 points and seven rebounds off the bench.
Fort Lewis came out firing in the second half, scoring 54 points after the break and controlling the paint to pull away. The Skyhawks used efficient scoring and forced turnovers to build momentum, stretching the lead in the final ten minutes.
Despite the loss, Adams State finished with 21 assists and out-rebounded Fort Lewis 47–46, while getting 28 points from the bench. The Grizzlies also tallied 10 steals and scored 24 points in transition, keeping the game competitive until late.
Adams State moves to 6-5 overall and 1-3 in RMAC play and will look to bounce back as non-conference action continues next week at home when they face Northwest Nazarene on Friday at 2 p.m.
