Adams State Falls Short in High-Scoring Battle Against Westminster, 103-98

Alamosa, Colo. — Despite a strong offensive showing, Adams State came up just short in a high-scoring battle against Westminster (Utah), falling 103-98 in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference matchup Saturday night at Plachy Hall.

The Grizzlies (10-14, 5-11 RMAC) put up a balanced attack, with Jude Tapia and Luke Williams each scoring 25 points to lead the way. Tapia was red-hot from beyond the arc, draining five 3-pointers, while Williams dominated inside, shooting 10-for-14 from the field and adding eight rebounds. John Harge and Jaylen Alexander each chipped in 11 points, with Alexander contributing six rebounds. Cameron Kimble played a key role at the free-throw line, going 9-for-10 to finish with nine points.

Adams State started fast, keeping pace with Westminster in a back-and-forth first half. The Grizzlies hit six 3-pointers and forced five steals before the break but trailed 58-51 at halftime. They opened the second half with a renewed energy, cutting the deficit to as little as three points in the final minutes. However, Westminster responded with key buckets down the stretch to seal the victory.

Westminster (12-12, 6-10 RMAC) was led by Donaval Availa, who scored 19 points, and Tommy Ball, who added 17, including five 3-pointers. The Griffins' depth proved to be the difference, as their bench outscored Adams State's 37-17.

The Grizzlies shot an efficient 52.5% from the field and knocked down 12 3-pointers but struggled to slow down Westminster's attack. The Griffins capitalized in the paint, outscoring Adams State 42-34, and held a slight edge in rebounding, 30-24.

Adams State will look to bounce back as they continue RMAC play next week.
