Adams State Wins a Hard Fought Home Game Against UCCS

Alamosa, Colorado — In a tough hard-fought matchup with UCCS the Grizzlies take the win 71-65 to move their record to 16-10(11-6 RMAC). This was a huge win for the Grizzlies as they came into tonight's matchup tied with UCCS in conference play at 10-6. This game now gives them a one-game lead over UCCS in the RMAC standings.

Tonight's game was close all the through with both teams playing great defense and forcing a lot of turnovers. During tonight's game, UCCS had a total of 21 turnovers and the Grizzlies had 14. Unfortunately for the Mountain Lions, they committed 26 personal fouls that allowed the Grizzlies to take over on the offensive end of the ball from the free-throw line. On the night Adams shot 34 free throws, making 25 of them. There was a massive difference from the free throw line as UCCS only shot 16, making 11 of them. With such a close margin at the end of the game, the Grizzlies' ability to force fouls and make free throws allowed them the opportunity to take home the win.

The defense was truly the story of tonight's game for the Grizzlies as they forced 21 UCCS turnovers, collecting a total of 10 team steals while also staying away from foul trouble. Nageak was an enforcer on the defensive side for the Grizzlies in her first game back from her knee injury. She was an absolute difference-maker for the Grizzlies on both sides of the court tonight but really made her impact defensively with her 5 steals. On top of the multiple steals and turnovers the Grizzlies forced, they were also able to hold the Mountain Lions to 42.6% from the floor, and 11.1% from behind the 3-point mark. Throughout the entire game, the Mountain Lions could find no consistency on the offensive side of the ball with the suffocating Grizzly defense.

Looking at individual performances, the Grizzlies were led by strong performances by Taejhuan Hill, Kiiyani Anitielu, Brooke Rodgers, and Angelline Nageak. Hill recorded yet another double-double for the Grizzlies as she finished her night with 19 points and 17 rebounds. Hill dominated the boards for the Grizzlies collecting 17 of their 36 total rebounds, of which 9 were offensive boards. Anitielu, Rodgers, and Nageak followed suit with 17, 16, and 13 points respectively, with Anitielu and Nageak also leading the way for the Grizzlies on the defensive side of the ball, collecting a total of 8 steals between the two of them.

Looking forward to the Grizzlies' next game they take on Colorado State University Pueblo here in Alamosa at Plachy Hall at 1 PM MST. This is a huge game for the Grizzlies as they will come into the game tied for fourth place in RMAC play with Pueblo at 11-6. This game will give the winning team the opportunity to take a strong hold on fourth place, while also giving them a chance to close in on a top-three seed in conference.
