Gunnison, Colo. — Adams State track and field traveled to Gunnison, Colorado, for the RMAC Last Chance Qualifier hosted by Western Colorado on Friday.
Despite bringing a limited squad, the Grizzlies found success both on the track and in the field events. Keirryse Simpson earned second place in the 200-meter dash with another provisional mark of 21.82. Ryan Gordon secured third in the 400 meters with a time of 50.89, while Ryan Chacon finished sixth in 51.39 seconds.
Louis O'Loughlin was one of three winners on the men's side, claiming first place in the 800 meters. He clocked his second provisional mark of the season with a time of 1:54.02. Oisin Lynch took third with a provisional time of 1:55.56, while teammate Jak Beckwith followed closely in fourth at 1:56.63.
David Millan earned third place in the mile with a provisional time of 4:20.27. The men's 3,000 meters was dominated by Adams State from start to finish. Kidus Begashaw led the way, winning with a time of 8:18.02. Teammate Emil Bezecny secured second in 8:50.15, while Micah Swann and Tyman Smart placed fourth and fifth with times of 9:07.73 and 9:12.03, respectively.
Juan Rosales ran away with first place in the 5,000 meters, finishing nearly a minute ahead of the field with a time of 14:57.92.
The 4x400-meter relay team, composed of El-Mir Reale, Gavin Heyneman, Ja'Warren Smith and Chris Rader, claimed victory with a time of 3:14.47.
In the men's shot put, Sam Dirkes led the way for the Grizzlies, earning second place with a throw of 17.05 meters, while James Waddles followed in third with a mark of 15.74 meters.
On the women's side, Sarah Cohen captured third place in the 400-meter dash with a time of 57.51.
Haley Harkrider and Megan Garrett rounded out the competition for the Grizzlies, finishing third and fourth in the mile with times of 5:17.24 and 5:22.77, respectively.
The Grizzlies will compete next weekend, starting Friday at the RMAC Track and Field Championships hosted by UCCS in Colorado Springs.
