Indianapolis -- The Adams State Grizzlies closed out the NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday with an impressive fourth-place team finish.
On the busiest day of the meet, the Grizzlies competed in seven events, delivering standout performances that earned them nine First Team All-American honors, three Second Team honors, and one National Champion title.
By the end of the weekend, Adams State had collected 19 First Team All-American honors, three Second Team honors, and secured two National Championships. Both the men's and women's teams placed fourth overall, with the men scoring 32 points and the women 40.
Saturday's action began with the mile, where Ava O'Connor led the Grizzlies with a third-place finish in 4:41.87. Elena Carey followed in fifth at 4:43.72, and Maggie McCleskey secured seventh in 4:44.38. Both Carey and McCleskey earned their second All-American honors of the meet. On the men's side, Housem Hrabi finished ninth in 4:07.74, while freshman Harrison Boyd placed 10th in 4:11.42, making a solid debut at the championships.
Sam Dirkes was the Grizzlies' lone field event competitor at the championships. He placed 12th in the shot put with a mark of 17.44m, securing Second Team All-American honors despite falling just short of his season best.
Lieke Hoogsteen delivered a standout performance in the 800m, placing third with a personal-best time of 2:06.22. This marked her second All-American honor of the meet.
The Grizzlies had a strong presence in the women's 3000m, with four athletes competing and three earning All-American status. Emily Schoellkopf led the way with a personal-best 9:28.30, finishing fourth. Ava O'Connor secured her second All-American honor of the day with a sixth-place finish in 9:28.87, while Tristan Spence placed eighth in 9:30.29.
On the men's side, Romain Legendre captured his second National Championship of the meet, breaking both the meet and facility record with a blistering 7:46.38. Legendre had already claimed the 5000m title on Thursday. Kidus Begashaw also impressed, finishing sixth with a personal-best 7:53.34.
The final event for Adams State at the 2025 National Championships was the women's 4x400m relay. The team of Islia Apkup, Sarah Cohen, Victoria Amiadamen, and Alese Sartain finished 11th with a time of 3:47.13.
The Grizzlies will begin outdoor season next week, heading to CSU Pueblo for the first outdoor meet of the season.
