Pueblo, Colo. — The Adams State Grizzlies opened their 2025 outdoor season at the Dr. Dan Caprioligo Invite hosted by CSU Pueblo. The Grizzlies competed against multiple RMAC schools alongside two Division I schools in Air Force and Colorado.
The Grizzlies competed in just one event on Friday with Lauren O'Campo competing in Women's Javelin. She opened her outdoor season with a throw of 40.01 meters. Placing behind Alaina Fantaski of Colorado and Lindsey Cure of Regis.
Saturdays events kicked off with Sam Dirkes taking second place in Men's Shot Put with a throw of 17.27 meters. He followed this second place performance with a third place finish in Men's Discus after he let it fly 46.70 meters. James Waddles took 13th place with a throw of 40.82 meters.
Things got started on the track hot for the Grizzlies with a first and second place performance in the Men's 10000m. Awet Beraki ran his way to first place with a time of 29:46.13. Juan Rosales captured second place with a time of 30:08.81. These performances jumped out ahead on the national lists with Beraki and Rosales claiming the one and two spots.
Megan Garett took home ninth place in the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 12:20.09. In the women's 1500m Haley Harkrider took home eighth place with a time of 4:40.89.
The men's 4x100m relay team competed on the track with a time of 40.59. The team comprised of Kerriyse Simpson, Ryan Smith, Ryan Gordon, and Chris Rader took home third place.
Alese Sartain ran her way to first place in the women's 400m with a time of 55.89. Sierra Velarde took home 12th place with a time of 1:00.54. Ryan Chacon ran a time of 49.76 to take home seventh place.
Jessica Simon and Fiona Hawkins took home first and third place in the women's 800m. Simon took home first place with a time of 2:14.45. Hawkins ran a time of 2:16.88 to claim third place.
Isila Apkup took third place with a time of 25.18. Keirryse Simpson ran 21.68 to take home second place. Chris Rader got seventh place with a time of 21.79. Taking home 12th place was Gavin Heyneman with a time of 22.06.
The Grizzlies will head to the University of New Mexico next week for the New Mexico Spring Invite.
