Grand Junction, Colo. — The Adams State Grizzlies rolled past Regis University on Friday afternoon with a 5-1 victory, relying on strong pitching and steady defense to stay alive in the RMAC Tournament.
Both teams were held scoreless through the first three innings before the Grizzlies broke through with a four-run surge in the bottom of the fourth. Josiah Hall opened the scoring with an RBI single through the left side, driving in Josh Parks. A throwing error by the Rangers allowed Hall and Christian Altamariano to score, and a sacrifice fly by Gunner Martinez brought Nolan Marthaler home to cap the inning.
Regis plated its lone run in the top of the fifth on a bases-loaded walk. Adams State responded in the bottom half when Parks drove in Martinez with a fielder's choice.
Connor Murray earned the win for the Grizzlies, tossing seven innings and allowing one run on five hits while walking six and striking out four. Ty Addington closed out the final two innings, allowing no hits or runs while walking two and striking out two.
Adams State will face Colorado Mesa tonight at 7 p.m. in an elimination game, with the winner advancing to the RMAC Championship round.
