ALAMOSA, Colo. – Adams State volleyball opened its 2025 home slate Wednesday night at Plachy Hall, dropping a three-set battle (25-17, 25-21, 25-19) to No. 5 West Texas A&M.
Senior Hadleigh Richardson paced the Grizzlies with 16 kills while hitting .216, while fellow senior Olivia Lunt added 13 kills at a .258 clip. Makylee Wilson chipped in four kills off the bench.
Adams State (2-3) showed fight throughout, trading early leads in the first two sets before the Lady Buffs (5-0) pulled away late behind a balanced offensive attack. Both teams finished with 41 kills, but the Grizzlies were undone by 25 hitting errors compared to WT's 11.
On the defensive side, Logan Conlin led with 10 digs, and Adams State recorded five team blocks, highlighted by a solo block and four block assists from Katie Bauer.
"I thought we played well overall. Each set came down to just a couple of key points that made the difference. We need to keep improving defensively, but there were a lot of positives today. I'm excited to see how we match up against another top-10 team this weekend," head coach Garcia Ramser said.
West Texas A&M, ranked No. 5 nationally, was led by Currie Marusak's 15 kills and a .364 hitting percentage, along with eight total blocks from Taytum Stow. The Grizzlies managed to slow down the WT offense, which entered the match hitting .320, holding the Buffs to a .297 mark.
Adams State returns to action this weekend, traveling to Kearney, Nebraska, for the Rosella Meier Fall Classic hosted by the University of Nebraska at Kearney.
