Box Score Alamosa, Colo. – The Adams State women's soccer team came up just short in a 1–0 loss to Lubbock Christian on Thursday afternoon at ASU Soccer & Lacrosse Field.
The Lady Chaps (2-1) broke through in the 13th minute when Ella Spiller slotted home the lone goal of the contest. From there, the Grizzlies (1-1-1) tightened defensively and created multiple chances, including four first-half shots and three corner kicks.
Adams State continued to press after the break, generating another four shots, highlighted by looks from Molly Lancaster and Mia Del Muro that forced saves from LCU keeper Emma Wright. The Grizzlies earned a dangerous free kick in the 88th minute but couldn't convert the chance to level the match.
Goalkeeper Ashlyn Bartley recorded four saves—three in the second half—to keep the Grizzlies within striking distance. Adams State finished with eight shots to LCU's seven, while the Lady Chaps held a 3–4 edge in corner kicks.
The match was physical throughout, with the Grizzlies picking up two yellow cards and a late red. Tena's dismissal in the 90th minute left Adams State shorthanded for the final seconds.
The Grizzlies return to action Saturday when they host Eastern New Mexico at 3 p.m. at ASU Soccer & Lacrosse Field.
