KEARNEY, Neb. – Adams State volleyball dropped its opening match at the Rosella Meier Fall Classic on Friday evening, falling in straight sets (22-25, 17-25, 19-25) to Sioux Falls at the Health & Sports Center.

The Grizzlies (2-5) were led offensively by Ariel Barrera, who tallied a team-high 13 kills while hitting .269 to go with eight digs. Hadleigh Richardson followed with 10 kills on a .292 clip and added six digs and a block assist.

Ellie Miller dished out a team-best eight assists and chipped in five digs, while Isabella DeLaRosa recorded 14 assists and five digs. Ashlyn Jones anchored the back row with 10 digs, while Nora Conway and Logan Conlin each served up an ace.

As a team, the Grizzlies finished with 36 kills, 35 assists, 45 digs, and four service aces, but were held to a .082 hitting percentage against a Cougar defense that totaled 10 team blocks.

Sioux Falls (4-2) was paced by Sadie Voss, who registered a match-high 10 kills, and Faith Van Eck, who posted four aces and six digs.

Adams State will continue tournament play Saturday in Kearney with two matches, beginning with an 9:30 a.m. MT contest against S.D. Mines.
