Grizzlies Win First Match of the Day, 3 Sets to 1 Against South Dakota Mines

KEARNEY, Nebraska — In the third match of a four-match road trip to Kearney, Nebraska, the Grizzlies won in four sets against South Dakota Mines. The win puts the Grizzlies' record at 3-5. 

The Grizzlies started slow in the first set before taking off, sweeping sets 2 through 4. The first set, South Dakota Mines was able to take by a score of 25-21 before the Grizzlies made their adjustments and took over the rest of the match, taking the second set by a score of 25-16, the third set 25-22, and the final fourth set by a score of 25-17. 

Comparing the two teams, the Grizzlies were able to handle almost every single major statistical category. The only category the Grizzlies did not have an edge in was digs, in which they tied South Dakota Mines 54-54. Other than digs, the Grizzlies had an edge in total points, kills, aces, blocks, and overall assists. Overall points the Grizzlies took by a score of 67-56; kills the Grizzlies had 53 to the 49 South Dakota Mines collected; serving aces the Grizzlies barely edged out South Dakota Mines 5 to 4; blocks the Grizzlies had a massive edge by recording 9 compared to the 3 South Dakota Mines had; and assists the Grizzlies collected 51 to the 47 of the South Dakota Mines women. Overall, it was a very dominating win by the Grizzlies, giving them their third win of the young season.

Individually, for the Grizzlies, they were led by Katie Bauer, Hadleigh Richardson, Isabella DeLaRosa, and Logan Conlin. Katie Bauer had an outstanding match as she led the Grizzlies in kills with her 11. Bauer also collected 6 blocks in the match, giving her an all-around great performance. Hadleigh Richardson also had an amazing match, continuing her great start to the season. Richardson collected 8 kills, tied for the lead in serving aces with 2, led the Grizzlies in blocks with 7, and had 12 digs, which was second on the team. Truly, it was a match to continue to build on for Richardson, who has been a great leader for the Grizzly women. Isabella DeLaRosa was a strong force for the Grizzly offense as she led the Grizzlies in assists, totaling 18 on the match. DeLaRosa also collected 10 digs in the match. The final standout for the Grizzlies was Logan Conlin, who led the Grizzlies in digs with 14 and was tied with Riachardson with her 2 serving aces to lead the Grizzlies and give them their edge in overall serving aces. This morning's match was truly a wonderful match for the Grizzly women, who look to continue to build on the success they have had early this season.
