ALAMOSA, Colo. – Adams State men's soccer dropped its final non-conference contest on Friday afternoon, falling 4-2 to South Dakota Mines at the ASU Soccer & Lacrosse Field.
The Hardrockers (4-0-2) wasted little time setting the tone, finding the net in the 4th minute before doubling the advantage just three minutes later. South Dakota Mines continued to apply pressure and tacked on a third goal in the 42nd minute to carry a 3-0 lead into halftime. Less than five minutes into the second half, the visitors extended the margin to 4-0 with a strike in the 50th minute.
Despite the deficit, Adams State (1-5-1) showed resilience in the closing stages. Kaidin Reese sparked the comeback attempt by scoring in the 76th minute. Just four minutes later,  Jett McTavish added his tally, capitalizing on a chance to bring the Grizzlies within two at 4-2. Adams State continued to push forward in the final 10 minutes but was unable to close the gap.
The Grizzlies generated 10 shots in the match, with five on frame, while Josh Kropf anchored the defense in goal with four saves. Defenders Francesco Boscolo Moretto, Caleb Avila and Tim Mietenkorte went the distance on the back line, helping stabilize play in the second half.
Adams State now shifts its focus to Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action, beginning Friday, Oct. 3, with a home matchup against MSU Denver. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. at the ASU Soccer Field.
