Kenosha, Wis. – Adams State cross country turned in a strong showing at the Lucian Rosa Invitational on Saturday, with both the men's and women's squads earning second-place team finishes against a competitive field. The Grizzlies placed multiple runners inside the top 10, highlighting a balanced performance that continues to build momentum early in the season.
The women opened the day for the Grizzlies and were led by sophomore Tristan Spence, who broke into the top 10 with an eighth-place finish in 21:36.8. Close behind,
Claragh Keane (13th, 21:40.0), Kiera Damron (14th, 21:43.7), and Maggie McKleskey (16th, 21:49.7) provided a strong scoring pack that secured Adams State's runner-up standing. Lea Navarro crossed in 26th with a time of 22:07.8, while
Addison Bisceglie (56th, 22:43.8) and
Chloe Swain (64th, 22:50.5) rounded out the lineup.
On the men's side, Adams State also secured a runner-up finish, led by
Kidus Begashaw's fourth-place performance in 24:29.4.
Julian Campos joined him in the top 10 with a ninth-place finish at 24:45.0, while
Danyom Yosief crossed just behind in 11th with a time of 24:46.7.
Jack Gumm added a 15th-place showing at 24:55.1, and
Housem Hrabi (21st, 25:01.4) rounded out the scoring five.
Max Aldrich (25th, 25:11.6) and
David Millan (26th, 25:12.7) followed close behind, solidifying the Grizzlies' depth en route to second place.
The Grizzlies' efforts came on the same course that will host this year's NCAA Division II National Championships, giving Adams State an early opportunity to test themselves against the terrain and competition they will see in November. Both squads showed depth throughout the meet, using the Lucian Rosa Invitational as both a benchmark and a building block in their push toward championship season.
The Grizzlies will be back on the course on Oct. 11, when they head to Fort Hays State to race at the FHSU Tiger Open.
