Box Score ALPINE, Texas — In their season opener, the Adams State Women's soccer team won 2-0 against Sul Ross State. Starting the season with a win gives the Grizzly Women an opportunity to begin strongly, as they aim to keep their early winning ways going while preparing for their second match.
Looking at the overall match, the Grizzly women truly dominated, holding the Lobos to just 2 shots, of which only 1 was on goal. The strong defensive effort made it a great performance for the Grizzly goalkeeper Ashlyn Bartley, who had a 100 percent save success rate on Sul Ross's single shot on goal. On the offensive side, the Grizzlies had a solid game, recording 16 shots, 11 of which were on goal, leading to their 2 goals.
Looking at individual performances, the two goals scored by the Grizzlies were made by two different players. One was by senior transfer Fatso Williams, who was a significant addition for the team, coming from D1 University of New Mexico. The other was scored by fellow senior Grace Abbott, who was a full-time starter last year. Williams' goal came at the 05:43 mark, and Abbott's goal was at 11:17, giving the Grizzlies a strong first-half lead they could carry through the rest of the match. West Texas is currently 1-0 after securing a 2-1 win against fellow RMAC opponent New Mexico Highlands yesterday on Thursday. Saturday's game will be a real challenge for the Grizzlies as they aim to keep performing well and start the season 2-0.
