Adams State Volleyball Starts 2025 With 3-0 Victory

San Angelo, Texas — Adams State women's volleyball opened the 2025 season with a 3-0 sweep over the University of Texas Permian Basin on Friday. The Grizzlies battled through extra points in the second and third sets to secure the win.

Despite a close first set, the Grizzlies, led by senior Hadleigh Richardson and junior transfer Olivia Lunt with 10 kills apiece, held on for a 25-22 victory.

In the second set, Adams State trailed 20-17 before going on a five-point run behind blocks from Richardson and sophomore Katie Bauer. Leading 22-20, the Grizzlies and Falcons traded points until a kill from Mercy Martinez sealed the 26-24 win.

The third set proved the tightest of the match. Adams State jumped out to an early lead but fell behind 22-18. A late rally gave the Grizzlies a 24-23 advantage, but they couldn't close it out until kills and two key blocks from Makyee Wilson secured the 33-31 win and the sweep.

Martinez finished with seven kills, 10 digs and one ace. Ellie Miller and Peyton Priddy each tallied 19 assists to pace a balanced Grizzlies offense. Lunt led the attack with a .208 hitting percentage.

As a team, Adams State hit .176 with 44 kills, while UTPB totaled 47. The Falcons were led by Ashlee Macias, who posted 23 kills and two blocks.

The Grizzlies return to action at 4:30 p.m. MT against Angelo State, a reunion of sorts for head coach Garcia Ramser, who spent four seasons there as an assistant.
