Strong Defense Leads Adams State Women's Soccer to a 0-0 Tie with West Texas A&M

Box Score

CANYON, Texas — In their second match of the season, Adams State Women's Soccer tied 0-0 versus West Texas A&M. The tie now puts the Grizzlies at a record of 1-0-1 early in the season.

Strong defense by both West Texas A&M and Adams State was the story of today's match. With the final score being 0-0, there was little offense by either team throughout the entire match. Overall, there were only 14 shots taken, with only 6 of those shots being on goal. West Texas did manage to have more offense than the Grizzlies, but with an outstanding performance by the Grizzly goalkeeper Ashlyn Bartley, it didn't matter that West Texas had 4 more shots on goal. Bartley was able to record 6 saves, keeping her season save percentage at 1.000 after two games. Bartley has now saved all 7 of the chances she's had, giving her an outstanding start to the season.

Offensively, for the Grizzlies, they were only able to collect 4 shots on the match, with only 1 of those shots being on goal. Of those 4 shots, Fatso Williams had 2 of them, Grace Abbott had 1, which was the only shot on goal by the Grizzlies, and Mia Del Muro recorded the last shot for the Grizzlies.

After the tie with West Texas, Coach Greco said, "The game was exciting. A draw was a fair result as both teams had their chances". Coach Greco followed this up by saying, "We problem-solved, we worked together, we played for one another. It was just a great experience against a tough opponent".

The 0-0 tie for the Grizzlies was a major feat as it was the first time in program history that they had kept a clean sheet versus West Texas. Along with this, Adams was able to finish their first road trip, allowing 0 goals and without a loss in their two matches, which is the first time Adams has not allowed a goal or recorded a loss in their opening away weekend. Overall, the 1-0-1 start for the Grizzlies was an amazing start to the year and is something they can build upon, allowing them to go out and have a special year for the program.

Looking forward to the Grizzlies' next match, they will have their home opener next Thursday, September 11th, against Lubbock Christian University. The match will be played at 1 PM MST here in Alamosa, Colorado.
