SAN ANGELO, Texas — In a back-and-forth fight to the finish, the Grizzlies fall late to Southern Nazarene University 3 sets to 2. The close loss puts the Grizzlies at a record of 2-2 and closes out their 4-match Texas road trip.
Match four of the road trip for the Grizzlies was an outstanding match for both Adams State and Southern Nazarene. Truly, either team could have won with Southern Nazarene taking the final set by a score of 15-12 to edge out the Grizzlies.
Looking at both teams statistically, it was a fairly even battle through each set within most statistical categories. Overall points the Grizzlies actually won despite taking the loss as they collected 105 points to Southern Nazarene's 97. Looking at how each team scored these points tells the story of why the Grizzlies unfortunately fell short today. The Grizzlies were able to collect more kills than Southern Nazarene but also collected more attack errors, which cost them in sets two and five, which were decided by 2 and 3 points, respectively. In the match, the Grizzlies collected 63 kills to Southern Nazarene's 52, but had 9 more attacking errors overall. Ultimately, the attacking errors were crucial as the Grizzlies also collected more serving aces, set assists, and had a higher overall point scoring percentage than Southern Nazarene.
Shining individually for the Grizzlies were Hadleigh Richardson, Rowan Tribelhorn, Peyton Priddy, Isabella Delarosa, and Ashlyn Jones. Hadleigh Richardson truly shone in tonight's game as she collected 28 of the Grizzlies' 63 kills, along with 8 digs and 3 blocks, which also led the team. Helping Richardson shine were both Peyton Priddy and Isabella Delarosa, who collected 29 and 22 assists, respectively. Priddy also collected 14 digs and 3 serving aces, while Delarosa collected 8 digs and 2 serving aces herself. Looking closer at Tribelhorn and Jones's performance, Tribelhorn collected 7 kills, which was second on the team, along with 1 assist and 2 blocks. Jones was tied for the team lead in digs with 14 while also collecting 5 assists and 2 serving aces. Overall, it was a team effort that unfortunately came up just short for the Grizzlies.
Looking forward to the Grizzlies' next match, they will be at home for their home opener, which will be against West Texas A&M. The home opener will be a great test for the Grizzly women as West Texas A&M is currently 3-0. The match will be next Wednesday, September 10th at 6 PM MST.
