Alamosa, Colo. – Adams State men's basketball delivered a complete performance Friday afternoon, rolling past Colorado School of Mines 96-78 at Plachy Hall to earn its seventh RMAC win of the season.
The Grizzlies shot an efficient 61.5% from the field and turned defense into offense throughout, using a strong first half to build a 41-33 lead before pulling away after the break with a 55-point second half.
Luke Williams and Wyatt Helming paced Adams State with 20 points apiece. Williams added 10 assists for a double-double, while Helming went 7-for-8 from the field and 4-for-4 at the free-throw line. Jaylen Alexander followed with 15 points, three blocks and three steals, and Jarmell Johnson provided a major spark off the bench with 19 points on 7-of-11 shooting.
Adams State seized momentum midway through the first half behind efficient ball movement and strong interior play, then opened the second half on a decisive run. The Grizzlies outscored Mines 22-12 in the first seven minutes of the half to push the lead into double digits and never looked back.
The Grizzlies finished with 24 points off turnovers and 19 fast-break points, forcing 19 Oredigger turnovers while holding Mines to 41.9% shooting. Adams State also won the paint battle 54-34 and received 25 points from its bench.
With the win, Adams State improves to 13-7 overall and 7-5 in RMAC play as it continues its conference slate against New Mexico Highlands on Tuesday.
