Albuquerque, N.M. — A select group of Adams State athletes traveled to the New Mexico Team Open to compete in the distance medley relay and men's shot put.

The distance medley relays competed Friday, and the Grizzlies turned in a strong showing. The men's DMR of Jack Gumm, Ryan Chacon, Louis O'Loughlin and Harrison Boyd placed second with a time of 9:48.38.

The women's DMR took first place, finishing in 11:21.55. The team consisted of Maggie McCleskey, Isila Apkup, Lieke Hoogsteen and Tristian Spence.

Sam Dirkes was the lone Grizzlies competitor Saturday. Competing in the shot put, Dirkes won the event with a throw of 18.91 meters, just 0.07 meters shy of his personal best.

The Grizzlies will now turn their sights to next weekend, when they host the Adams State Qualifier on Saturday.
