Adams State Men's Basketball Takes Down UCCS 101-94

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado — In a Thursday night thriller, the Grizzlies top the UCCS Mountain Lions 101-94. The Adams State win gives them their second straight win, and puts them at a record of 18-9(12-7 RMAC). The Grizzlies 12th conference win of the regular season puts them in fifth place in conference with just one final regular season game. The win also puts the Grizzlies in a great position to finish in the top five in conference with their final game being against CSU Pueblo. 

Diving into tonight's game further, the Grizzly offensive attack led the way throughout the game, scoring 101 points giving Adams State the win, 101-94. Offensively for the Grizzlies their outstanding shooting night started with a hot first half in which they shot 63.33% from the floor, and 75% from behind the 3-point line. With this strong performance, Adams State scored 53 points in the first half giving them a 5 point lead going into the second half of the game. In the second half, the Grizzlies slowed down slightly but with 33 free throws, 24 of which the Grizzlies made and a shooting percentage of 46.15% from the floor, the Grizzlies were able to put the final touches on the game with a 48 point second half. 

Defensively tonight, the Grizzlies did a solid job holding a solid UCCS offense to only 45.5% from the floor, and 30% from behind the 3-point line for the game. As well, the Grizzlies were able to force 13 turnovers which included 7 steals, and 3 blocks. With the Grizzlies outstanding offensive performance and their suffocating defense, Adams State took the lead early in tonight's game and never gave it back. 

Leading the way for the Grizzlies in tonight's game was an unbelievable performance from Wyatt Helming who finished the night with 33 points while shooting 11 for 16 from the floor, 2 for 6 from the 3-point line, and 9 for 9 from the free throw line. Helming was also able to collect 10 rebounds giving him the double-double on top of a career night shooting the basketball. The other standout in tonight's game was Luke Williams who almost collected a triple-double in the Grizzly win. Williams finished the night with 15 points, 10 rebounds, and 8 assists putting him just 2 assists short of the triple-double. Overall, the leadership of the two Seniors in Helming and Williams were an unstoppable force in tonight's win. 

Following the lead of Helming and Williams was Jarmell JohnsonDillan Baker, and Jayce King who all finished the game in double-figures. Johnson finished second on the team with 19 points, while King and Baker closed out the double-digit scorers with 12 and 10 respectively. Overall, the 5 men, including Helming and Williams finished with 89 of the Grizzlies 101 points while making 8 of the Grizzlies 9 3-pointers, and 25 of their 30 free throws. Between the 5 men it was truly an offensive showcase, leading the way for the Grizzlies 18th win of the season. 

Following tonight's win, the Grizzlies will have one more regular season game before the 2025-26 RMAC regular season comes to an end. The Grizzlies final game of the regular season will be a road game against Colorado State University, Pueblo who currently holds the fourth-place seeding in the RMAC. The game will be this Saturday, February 28th, at 3 PM MST. With the final game being the deciding factor in who finishes fifth in conference, the Grizzlies will give it their all in the game against CSU Pueblo looking to finish the season on a 3-game winning streak and a fifth place finish in the RMAC standings going into the RMAC Tournament.
