COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado — In a Thursday afternoon game against University Colorado, Colorado Springs, the Grizzlies fall by a final score of 72-63. The loss brings the Grizzlies to a record of 20-9(14-5 RMAC) along with bringing them to a tie for second place with UCCS, and Black Hills State. The Grizzlies final game of the season will determine where they finish up in the final RMAC standings as Adams State gears up for the RMAC tournament.
Looking at tonight's game, the Grizzlies game was a story of the first and fourth quarter, compared to the second and third quarters. In the first and fourth quarters, the Grizzlies truly struggled to score the basketball, shooting 25% from the floor in the first quarter, and 35.71% from the floor in the fourth quarter. The poor shooting performance only led to 24 Grizzly points in the first and fourth quarters, compared to UCCS's 32 points. The 8 point difference in the first and fourth quarters was the final difference for the Grizzlies as the second and third quarters were extremely close between the two teams with only 1 point separating the teams in the second and third quarters. In the second and third quarters, the Grizzlies shot completely differently, finishing 57.14% in the second quarter and 54.55% in the third quarter. In these two quarters the Grizzlies managed to score 39 points on their strong offensive performance.
Defensively, the Grizzlies shined as usual forcing 16 UCCS turnovers while collecting 13 steals. Unfortunately, the Grizzlies 13 steals only led to 6 points off of turnovers. With the inability to take advantage of the multiple turnovers the Grizzlies were able to force, UCCS was able to stay ahead throughout tonight's game leading to their win by a final score of 72-63.
Individually for the Grizzlies, they were led by Kiiyani Anitielu, Elaina Watson, Ashiian Hunter, and Taejhuan Hill. All four women finished the night with double-digits with Anitielu leading the way with 20 points on 6 for 14 shooting. Following Anitielu was Watson with 13, and Hunter and Hill who both finished with 12 points. Between the four women, they scored 57 of the Grizzlies 63 points leading to a solid performance for all four women.
For the Grizzlies, they will look to bounce in their final game of the regular season against Colorado State University, Pueblo. The Grizzlies will look to finish the regular season strong and solidify themselves in the top three in the final RMAC standings. The Grizzlies final game against CSU Pueblo will be on the road in Pueblo, Colorado at the home of CSU Pueblo. The game will begin at 1 PM MST and be the determining factor in where the Grizzlies finish the 2025-26 regular season.
