Pueblo, Colo. – With the indoor season only coming to a close last Saturday, most of the Adams State track & field team rested this weekend. However, a small group of Grizzlies kicked off the outdoor season at the Dr. Dan Caprioglio Early Bird Invitational.
The only Grizzly to compete on Friday was
Lauren Ocampo. She had a solid showing with a 7th place finish with a throw of 42.50 meters. This mark also stands as a provisional national qualifying mark.
Jiovanni Herrera got the Grizzlies started early on Saturday in the 10000m. He posted a personal best time of 32:51.69.
Olivia Coulston then knocked off her own PB in the 10000m, running a time of 39:40.12. The action on the track continued with
Keira Damron setting a new PB in the 1500m and winning her heat with a time of 4:39.76.
Jayden Marquez found a new personal best of his own in the 200m, running 23.17.
Maya Kronberg had a good day in the field events. She placed 7th in the shot put with a throw of 10.99m and 6th in the discus with a personal best mark of 41.50m. The Grizzly men saw a couple personal bests in the field events as well.
Landon Baker set a new PB in the long jump with a mark of 6.53m, and
Wyatt Dirkes threw 14.08m for a new PB in the shot put.
The Adams State track & field squad will continue their spring campaign next Friday and Saturday at the New Mexico Spring Invitational in Albuquerque.
