GRAND JUNCTION, Colorado — The Adams State Women's Volleyball team opened RMAC play Friday night with a 3-0 loss to Colorado Mesa at Brownson Arena. The Mavericks secured the victory with set scores of 25-21, 25-11, and 25-17. The loss moves the Grizzlies to 4-7 overall and 0-1 in RMAC play.
In tonight's match Adams State came out competitive in the opening set, trading points with Colorado Mesa early. The Grizzlies recorded 13 kills in the first set and hit .194 as a team. However, the Mavericks answered with a .400 hitting percentage and ultimately claimed the set 25-21.
Colorado Mesa carried that momentum into the second set, limiting Adams State to five kills over the entire set leading to 11 total points in the set. The Mavericks ultimately took the second set 25-11 to move to a lead of 2-0.
The Grizzlies responded extremely well and showed great fight in the third set, recording eight kills. The Grizzlies kept it tied all the way to 14-14 before Colorado Mesa's offense proved too much to overcome, as the Mavericks finished the set with 19 kills and a .378 hitting percentage to close out the match 25-17.
Freshman Aubrey Rothermich and Junior Isa Folau led the Grizzlies offensively with seven kills. Rothermich finished with 21 attacks, finishing with a .190 hitting percentage; while Folau finished with 23 attacks, finishing with a .174 hitting percentage. Sienna Markovich followed along with six kills of her own for the Grizzlies.
Marrkovich also contributed two digs and one service ace, while Folau added three digs. Setter Isabella DeLaRosa tallied 12 assists leading the Grizzlies offense, and Ellie Miller added 11 assists to help facilitate the Grizzlies' offense. Defensively, Ashlyn Jones recorded a team-high 14 digs serving as a defensive anchor for the Grizzlies all night.

Adams State will look to bounce back from Friday's conference-opening loss as the Grizzlies continue RMAC play tomorrow afternoon in Salt Lake City, Utah against Westminster University. Tomorrow's match will be at 4 p.m. MST being streamed on the RMAC network. Support the Grizzlies and watch as they seek to bounce back tomorrow to move to an even record of 1-1 in early RMAC play.
