RAPID CITY, South Dakota — The Adams State University men's soccer team fell on the road Sunday afternoon, dropping a 6-0 decision to South Dakota Mines at Dakota Fields. The loss moves the Grizzlies to a record of 1-4-1 as they wrap up their preseason schedule and prepare for their upcoming RMAC conference schedule.
The Hardrockers came out aggressively, scoring three goals within the opening eight minutes. South Dakota Mines opened the scoring in the fourth minute before adding his second goal just three minutes later. They then extended their Mines lead to 3-0 in the eighth minute.
Adams State looked to settle in defensively following the early offensive surge, but South Dakota Mines added two more goals before halftime. South Dakota Mines then added its final goal early in the second half scoring in the 48th minute, bringing the final score to 6-0.
The Hardrockers controlled the offensive attack throughout the match, holding a 33-3 advantage in shots and an 18-2 edge in shots on goal. South Dakota Mines also held a 7-3 advantage in corner kicks.
Despite the offensive pressure, Adams State goalkeeper Lars Ostermann kept the Grizzlies within reach with 12 saves over the 90-minute match.
Jonathan Vazquez recorded one of Adams State's two shots on goal, Ryan Harcrow recorded the other shot on goal. The Grizzlies finished with three total shots.
Adams State will look to bounce back in its next contest as the Grizzlies continue their 2026 season with their next match, next Friday, September 25th. Adams State will take on Metro State in Denver, Colorado at 6 p.m. MST as they look to start their conference schedule with a road win.
