ALAMOSA, Colo. (October 23, 2014) – The Adams State University Grizzlies look to build off last weekend's 37-27 road victory when they host the New Mexico Highlands University Cowboys on Saturday afternoon from Rex Stadium.

Auston Hillman shined in last Saturday's win over Black Hills State University as the sophomore posted 299 yards of total offense and one touchdown as the Grizzlies busted out to a 23-0 advantage in the second quarter.
After a scoreless first quarter of action, the Grizzlies took control via 23 unanswered points that began with three
Keating Krauser field goals. Next it was cornerback
Demari Reynolds who claimed the first touchdown of the game via his 15-yard pick-six. The scoring continued on the last possession of the opening stanza as
Jabari Ray Garvin punched into the end zone with a one-yard run. Â
At game's end, ASU controlled the battle of possession with a time of 34:26; marking the first game all season that the Grizzlies bested their opponent in time of possession.
ASU welcomes a Cowboys squad coming off a thrilling 46-43 win over Western State Colorado University. In that conference tilt, the game came down to the leg of senior kicker Zach Tapia who sent a 46-yard field goal attempt through the uprights. It was a comeback win for Highlands as they trailed 43-36 with less than 90 seconds remaining. After driving 75-yards, quarterback Lance Orender found Tyler Slavin for a 26-yard touchdown followed by a successful Tapia PAT to tie the affair at 43. Tapia's game-winning field goal was then set up by a Western State fumble on their ensuing offensive drive.
Tapia made good of all four field goal attempts in the game with three attempts distancing atleast 45-yards. For his efforts, Tapia was named this week's RMAC Special Teams Player of the Week. Â Â
Highlands enters Alamosa with a potent offense led by Orender and Slavin. As the signal-caller, Orender leads the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) with 3,028 passing yards (427.6 yards/game) while at the receiver spot, Slavin is the conference's scoring leader at 12.9 points/game. The duo has connected for a staggering 15 touchdowns through seven games. As a whole, Highlands offensive firepower has resulted in an average of 35.4 points per game and 547.6 yards per game.
Defensively, the team is led by linebacker Jared Koster who has an RMAC-best 105 total tackles. The Coronoa, Calif. product has posted no less than 13 total tackles in a single game this season. Koster currently ranks second in the RMAC with 4.5 sacks.
The game between the Grizzlies and Cowboys will serve as the Spud Bowl and Ag Days for Adams State. Live television and radio coverage will be provided by KSPK.
