PUEBLO, Colo. (December 5, 2014)—The Adams State University Grizzlies women's basketball lost Friday night against Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) foe the Colorado State University-Pueblo ThunderWolves by 61-46 margin. With tonight's results, Adams is still searching for their first win of the season, dropping to 0-5, 0-1 in RMAC contests. CSU-Pueblo, who had lost two straight games before tonight's matchup, improve to 3-2 on the season, 1-0 in RMAC play.
At tip-off, the Pack looked to be in driver's seat early at home, scoring the first five points of the matchup off the benefit of a successful three-point basket scored by Dee Arrieta and a layup from Emily Dungey. The Grizzlies responded with a three-point shot of their own and continued a back-and-forth trend of chipping away at the Pack lead only to watch their momentum slip away. A jumper drained by
Mariah Gonzales with 12:02 left in the first half of regulation tied the score at 15 points apiece and that's when the offensive chess match began. Down by five points with less than five minutes left, the Grizzlies went on an 8-4 run to close out the first half trailing the Pack, 29-28.
The first half offensive leader for Adams State was
Desiree Anderson who scored six points for the Grizzlies off 2-6 shooting and 1-4 from beyond the 3-point line.
Lena Jaycox followed behind Anderson, with five points.
After keeping things close and competitive in the first half, the Grizzlies were unable to follow up from their excellent form in the second as the Grizzlies were outscored by a 32-18 margin. The offensive mojo simply wasn't there and resulted in shooting percentage dipping from 28.9% in the first half to the lowest second half shooting percentage of the season at 20%. The Grizzlies were unable to find a defensive answer for the ThunderWolves' Shatoia Gober who scored eight points in the second half.
For the game, the Grizzlies were led by Anderson who totaled 9 points in the affair. Gonzales scored eight points, while
Emilie Klint posted six. The Grizzlies, for the game, shot at a 25.4 percent efficiency rate. 18 of their points came from within the paint while the bench contributed 20 points.
The Grizzlies will play the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs tomorrow at 5:30 p.m. from the Gallogly Events Center.
