SPEARFISH, S.D. (January 2, 2015) – After a highly contested opening half the Adams State University women's basketball team fell flat against Black Hills State University on Friday night from the Young Center. The Yellow Jackets outscored the Grizzlies 52-27 in the second half as Adams State faltered by a final score of 84-55.
ASU now falls to 1-9 overall and 1-5 in conference play. Meanwhile, the Yellow Jackets improve to 6-4, 5-2 RMAC with the win.
The Grizzlies shot 33 percent from the field during each half but the Yellow Jackets countered with marks of 54 percent and 64 percent, respectively. At game's end, Black Hills State shot 59 percent (28-47) from the field and a healthy 52 percent (9-17) from three.
ASU led by as much as six in the opening stanza and eventually came back to tie the game at 28-28 after a pair of
Nicole Broyles free throws with 1:07 remaining before the break. The Yellow Jackets began the second half on a 13-0 run which the Grizzlies were unable to mount a comeback from.
Desiree Anderson led Adams State with 16 points in her first start since Dec. 13 against Fort Lewis College. Anderson went 6-of-13 from the floor.
Shalisa Moffit contributed 14 points off the bench in a losing effort.
Five BHSU players finished in double figures led by 16 points from Logan Cowan.
