WBB | Strong Second Half Effort Not Enough Against Colorado Mines

ALAMOSA, Colo. (January 23, 2015)—The Adams State University Grizzlies women's basketball team lost this evening in their Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) bout with the visiting Colorado School of Mines by an 85-71 score. With the loss, Adams now falls to 2-14 and 2-10 in RMAC play. Currently in RMAC standings, Adams State's record has them seated last in the conference.
 
With the victory tonight, Mines improves their record to 9-9 while being 4-8 in conference play. The Grizzlies have now lost three straight conference games and will look to rebound tomorrow (Jan. 24) to snap the streak against the visiting Colorado Christian University Cougars.
 
The Orediggers offense proved to test the Grizzlies' defense throughout the game as the Mines' offense had five players score in the double digits realm. CSM was led offensively by Courtney Martin who scored 16 points off of 6-12 shooting from the field while cashing in four of her six free throws. Martin also led the team with two steals. Sam Rusk contributed 10 points and led the team with 10 total rebounds- nine of which were defensive. Laura Tyree, Brianna Robinson, and Taylor Helbig each scored over ten points.
 
The Grizzlies were led offensively by Desiree Anderson, who scored a season-high 22 points off of 7-19 shooting while converting 7-12 free throws. J'Nae Squires-Horton scored 12 points due to her ability to shoot three's with success. Emilie Klint and Lena Jaycox each contributed 15 points.
 
Adams State shot 24-66 (36.4%) from the field compared to the Orediggers 26-49 (53.1%). The Grizzlies struggled to convert free throws in tonight's match-up as they only converted 14-24 (58.3%). CSM on the other hand converted 25-32 (78.1%). 24 of their free throws were shot in the second half. Mines was also 8-15 (53.3%) from beyond the arc.
 
Adams State will now prepare for Colorado Christian University. The match-up will be played within the confines of Plachy Hall at 5:30 p.m. Live stats, video, and audio will be made available for fans.
