ALAMOSA, Colo. (January 24, 2015) -- The Adams State University Grizzlies women's basketball team lost this evening in their Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) showdown with the visiting Colorado Christian University Cougars by an 81-49 score. With tonight's result, Adams State's record now stands at 2-15 while being 1-11 in RMAC play. It marks the fourth consecutive conference loss for ASU.
With the victory, CCU improves to 8-11 overall and 8-5 in conference play. The Grizzlies now prepare for a Jan. 31 home meeting with Fort Lewis College.
Against the Cougars, ASU was led offensively by Emily Klint and
Desiree Anderson. Klint led ASU with total points scored by posting 13 off 3-9 shooting and converting 7-8 of her free throws. Anderson chipped in 12 points for the Grizzlies, with nine from behalf of the charity stripe.
A strong first half defensive effort assisted the Cougars with snagging tonight's win. They were highly effective in limiting the amount of shots Adams converted, as the Grizzlies were 5-33 (15.2%) in the first half of regulation. The Cougars had 21 defensive rebounds in the first half as a team. Collectively, ASU only grabbed 26 rebounds for the duration of the game. The Cougars limited the Grizzlies to shot 11-65 from the field (16.9%) during tonight's conference tilt.
While a stifling defense was in full effect, Ali Meyer and Taylor Torres were able to have a strong showing offensively for CCU. The duo led CCU with 30 combined points. Mary Eckenrode and Kate Louthan each posted 14 points each. For the game, CCU converted 23-48 of their shots (47.9%) while also having success from the free throw line. They converted 32-41 (78%) of their shots from the charity stripe. Adams, in comparison, posted 24-28 (85.7%) from the free throw line.
