ALAMOSA, Colo. (January 31, 2015) The Adams State University Grizzlies women's basketball team was victorious this evening in their Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) showdown against longtime rival the Fort Lewis College Skyhawks by a 77-74 score. With the win, Adams was able to snap a four game losing streak and improve their record to 3-15 overall and 3-11 in RMAC play. With the loss, the Skyhawks move to 10-8, 7-7 RMAC.
Offensively, the Grizzlies were led by the play of
Desiree Anderson and
J'nae Squires-Horton. Anderson posted 17 points by shooing 4-15 from the field, 3-9 from three-point range, and 6-8 from the charity stripe. Squires-Horton, who was a clutch 3-4 from behind the arc, had an effective 15 points.
Lena Jaycox also contributed 10 points in the affair.
Nicole Broyles and
Maya Brown made their presence known in the paint. The duo combined for 17 points while Broyles contributed five total rebounds.
The Grizzlies had difficulty trying to find a defensive answer for FLC's Mary Brinton. Brinton came into tonight's affair as the leading scorer for the Skyhawks and showed the Grizzlies why she is one of the most disruptive players in the RMAC. She totaled 22 points off 7-13 shooting and an 8-10 mark from the free throw line.
For the game, ASU shot from the field at 37.9 percent (25-56) compared to 43.3 percent (26-60) for Fort Lewis.
The Grizzlies will look to use this momentum to propel them into their next conference road match against New Mexico Highlands University on Feb. 6. Live stats, video, and audio will be made accessible for fans.
