LAS VEGAS, N.M. (February 6, 2015) – A strong second half effort was not enough for Adams State University in a 67-60 loss on the road against New Mexico Highlands University.
Emilie Klint and
J'nae Squires-Horton each chipped in 13 points in defeat as the Grizzlies falter to 3-16 overall and 3-12 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) tilts.
Despite shooting 27 percent (8-29) in the second half, ASU outscored the Cowgirls after halftime but at no point were able to claim the lead.
Hurting their efforts was a slow start as the Grizzlies were unable to reach a double digit point total until
Desiree Anderson connected on a three-pointer with 8:20 remaining in the first half.
NMHU possessed a +10 point lead for much of the second half before the Grizzlies tightened the gap down the stretch.
A silver-lining for ASU was their 20-of-23 (87%) shooting mark from the charity stripe. The Grizzlies also controlled the front court with 20 points in the paint and held a 39-29 rebounding edge. In total, ASU tallied 18 offensive rebounds led by six from freshman
Sabra Ross.
The program is next in action Saturday (Feb. 7) at Western New Mexico University. Tip off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
