WBB | Weekend Ends With 65-56 Loss To WNMU

Silver City, N.M. (February 7, 2015)—The Adams State University Grizzlies women's basketball team closed out their weekend of Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) participation with a loss tonight against Western New Mexico University. The Grizzlies drop tonight's game against the Mustangs by a score of 65-56 and go 0-2 on the weekend. With tonight's result the Grizzlies record now stands at 3-17 while being 3-13 in RMAC play. WNMU improves their record to 12-9, 9-8 RMAC.
 
Offensively the Grizzlies were led by J'nae Squries-Horton and Lena Jaycox. Squires-Horton, who has now eclipsed 10 points in three consecutive games, showcased another impressive outing with 16 points by shooing 6-of-12 from the field and a solid 4-of-7 from beyond the three-point line. Jaycox led the Grizzlies with 19 points, shooting 6-of-18 from the field while converting 5-of-12 shots from beyond the arc.
 
Tonight's game was determined mainly within the paint. The Mustangs were able to expose the frontcourt of the Grizzlies and totaled 32 points in the paint. In comparison, the Grizzlies were only able to find 12 points within the paint. WNMU's Ashely Mitchell and Stephanie Moore combined for 30 points and contributed nearly half of the Mustangs offense.
 
The Mustangs led by as many as 11 points. For the game, the Grizzlies converted 29.8 percent (17-57) of their shots in comparison to the Mustangs conversion of 43.9 percent (25-57).
 
The Grizzlies will now return back to Alamosa to prepare for their next RMAC game against University of Colorado at Colorado Springs on Feb. 13.
