WBB | Grizzlies Lose Heartbreaker, 80-78

ALAMOSA, Colo. (February 13, 2015)—The Adams State University Grizzlies women's basketball team lost in heartbreaking fashion against the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs on Friday night. In a game that came down to the final seconds, the Mountain Lions were able to narrowly leave Plachy Hall with a 80-78 win with free throw shooting down the stretch. With the loss, the Grizzlies have dropped three straight conference games and their record now stands at 3-18 while being 3-14 in conference play. UCCS improves to 19-4 overall and 14-3 in RMAC games.

Adams was led offensively by the trio of Desiree Anderson, Emilie Klint, and Lena Jaycox. The triad combined for 53 points. Anderson contributed 22 points on the scoreboard from 8-of-18 shooting while being an outstanding 5-of-9 from beyond the three-point line. J'nae Squires-Horton facilitated the ball effectively to lead the team with six assists. Klint injected 17 points while Jaycox produced 14.

Once again Brittany Hernandez proved to be a disruptive factor against the Grizzlies as she led the Mountain Lions with 22 points while sinking one of the final free throws to seal the victory for UCCS. Hernandez along with a deep bench, proved to be the formula once again to expose the Grizzlies. The UCCS bench pitched in 35 points in tonight's affair in comparison to the Grizzlies 16.

ASU led by as much as eight points entering the early stages of the second half and came back from as many as 13 points. Despite the heartbreak, the Grizzlies will have to use tonight's momentum to prepare for the Colorado State University-Pueblo ThunderWolves tomorrow night (Feb. 14). Action is slated to begin at 5:30 p.m. from Plachy Hall.
