ALAMOSA, Colo. (February 14, 2015)—The Adams State University Grizzlies women's basketball team lost tonight in their Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) matchup against the Colorado State University-Pueblo ThunderWolves by a score of 68-54. The Grizzlies conclude the weekend, losing both their weekend matchups and now have dropped four consecutive RMAC games. Their record now stands at 3-19 and 3-15 in RMAC tilts. CSU-Pueblo improves their record to 14-8 while holding a 12-6 record in RMAC play.
Adams was led offensively by the trio of
Emilie Klint,
Lena Jaycox, and
J'nae Squires-Horton. Klint and Jaycox both scored 11 points each. Klint scored 11 points off 4-of-10 shooting, and was 1-of-1 from beyond the three-point line. She was also a perfect 2-of-2 from the charity stripe. Jaycox contributed nine of her points from beyond the three-point line. She was also a defensive influence in tonight's matchup against the ThunderWolves by contributing as the leading player in steals with four. Squires-Horton ended the night with 10 points.
ASU fell trap to CSU-Pueblo's effectiveness to turn ASU turnovers into points and were also able to convert buckets within the paint. CSU-Pueblo converted 18 points off turnovers -- 13 in the first half alone. For the game, the Grizzlies were unable to create enough defensive pressure and were only able to tally seven points from turnovers. CSU-Pueblo injected 34 points on the scoreboard from baskets scored inside the paint. The Grizzlies only converted 10 points in that same statistical category. Combine those elements with a remarkable 58.3 percent second half shooting performance and the visiting ThunderWolves were able to walk away with the win. Offensively they were led by Dee Arrieta, who scored 20 points off on 7-of-12.
For the game, the Grizzlies made 32.3 percent of their shots compared to CSU-Pueblo's 49.1 percent. Adams State will return back to action on Feb. 20, hosting the Regis University Rangers at 5:30 p.m. Live stats, video, and audio will be made accessible for fans.
