ALAMOSA, Colo. (January 9, 2015) —The Adams State University women's basketball team unfortunately lost tonight in their Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference showdown with the visiting Western New Mexico University Mustangs by a 70-63 score. With the loss, the Grizzlies now fall to 1-11 on the season, 1-7 in RMAC contests. WNMU improves to 6-6 on the season and 4-5 in RMAC play with tonight's results. ASU has now lost four straight RMAC games and will look to improve their RMAC standings tomorrow (Jan. 10) against the New Mexico Highlands University Cowgirls.

The strongest offensive output from the Grizzlies so far this season was on display against the Mustangs. Both Desiree Anderson and Mariah Gonzales posted 20 points apiece and had an extreme amount of success shooting from beyond the three-point line. Emilie Klint also had success shooting the ball in the early moments of the game, tallying six of her 11 points in the first half. Shooting a season high 41 percent from the field in the first half, the Grizzlies trailed the Mustang 32-31 entering halftime.

ASU had trouble replicating the offensive success they had in the first half, allowing WNMU to start the second half on a 12-0 run. The Grizzlies trailed the Mustangs by as many as 13 points in the second half, but with the help of applying a full court press the Grizzlies reached within two points with less than three minutes left in regulation. Ultimately the difference in the game came down to the Mustangs making shots when they needed them the most. WNMU's Stephanie Moore was the x-factor in tonight's rumble, contributing 12 points in a deep Mustangs offensive attack. She leads the team in points scored per game so far this season. The Mustangs shot from the field at an outstanding 51 percent compared to the Grizzlies 41.7 percent.

The Grizzlies had 19 points scored off turnovers in tonight's affair and utilized the paint effectively to put points on the scoreboard. 16 of their points came within the paint. Head Coach Larry Joe Hunt will look for the same recipe tomorrow night against a struggling New Mexico Highlands University squad. The Cowgirls have yet to win a game on the road this season (0-6). Tip-off is scheduled for tomorrow (Jan. 10) at 5:30 p.m. from Plachy Hall.
