MBB | Milanovich Classic Preview

Grizzlies still searching for first win of season

ALAMOSA, Colo. (November 25, 2015) – Adams State University will travel for another week to compete in the Milanovich Classic hosted by Dickinson State University. They'll play Carroll College (Mont.) on Friday (11/27) and close out their weekend in Dickinson, N.D. against Rocky Mountain College (Mont.) on Saturday (11/28). Both games are slated for a 3:00 pm tip-off.

Live coverage can be found at the links above or by visiting the ASU men's basketball schedule page.

Last Time Out
The Grizzlies stayed busy before fall break with a full slate of games. They travelled west to test their mettle in two exhibition games against Division I opponents; the first against the Aggies of Utah State University, the second against Brigham Young University. The Grizzlies ultimately fell 83-68 to Utah State and 97-56 against BYU. The program then returned to Alamosa for their home opener versus No. 22 Midwestern State University. The Grizzlies held control, and the lead, in the first half before falling behind after halftime. The game ended in a 95-87 defeat, moving ASU to 0-3 in regular season games.
Against Utah State the Grizzlies struck hard and struck fast taking the lead early in the first half before slowing in the second half. Against BYU they faced a different struggle by shooting a meager 27.7 percent from the field and 21.4 percent from the arc.

Not Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde
Adams State has struggled to piece together a full game this season. The Grizzlies have held a halftime lead in all three regular season tilts (Angelo State, Tarleton State, and Midwestern) only to surrender that lead in the final 20 minutes of regulation.
In all five games (including exhibition) ASU holds a shooting average of 42.8 percent from the field. However, if you break down the team's shooting performance by half the Grizzlies don't wilt in the second they actually flourish, improving from a 39.5 percent shooting in the first to 46.4 percent in the second. Unfortunately it would seem their opponents share the same affinity for the latter parts of games.

Get That Outta Here!
The Grizzlies are third in the RMAC averaging 3 blocks per game. Junior DJ Morgan has accounted for 7 and leads the conference in shots blocked per game with 2.3.

About Carroll College and Rocky Mountain College
Both Carroll College and Rocky Mountain reside in the Frontier Conference and compete at the NAIA Division I level. Carroll College is 3-1 and is shooting an impressive 58.6 percent from the field and 45.5 percent from beyond the arc through four games. Carroll is led by Zach Taylor who ranks second in points per game (PPG) in the Frontier Conference, netting 83 points to boast a 20.75 average.

Rocky Mountain College is a perfect 6-0. The Battlin' Bears have a weapon of their own in Rob Nyby. Nyby is right behind Taylor in the Frontier Conference averaging 20.67 points per game. He makes a handsome living sniping from three point land by shooting at a 60 percent clip which ranks first at the conference level.
